at the North Cemetery. From 1935 to 1965,
patients at Vipeholm Hospital for the mentally
retarded were buried in this grave.
Only a few received their own stone with their names,
the rest are anonymous.

I have parked my bike at the northeastern entrance to the Northern Cemetery
facing Getingevägen. There is a sign Vipeholmsstenen.
Vipeholm was a hospital in Lund for people
with mental disabilities "insanity",
best known for the experiments that were conducted with the inmates as test subjects.
During the 40s and 50s, patients were given sweets with a high sugar content
to study caries on their teeth.
It was not otherwise a particularly pleasant treatment they received.
At the site is a memorial stone for the 560 patients
who were buried here, usually anonymously and without ceremony.
A few with gravestones. The text on the stone:
In memory of patients from Vipeholm Hospital who were given their final resting place here
1935–1965.
If the journey was stormy, how beautiful is the harbor.
