about a fencing competition at Fäladsgården in Lund.

with the cat Gråen and Sankt Hansgården.
18 October 2009: An acquaintance's son will participate in a fencing competition in Fäladshallen. Bikes there. On the way I see the gray cat. A nice cat. I have named it Gråen. Stay and cuddle with it. Enough is enough says Gråen and move on.

When I come to Fäladshallen the contest has begun. My friend is showing me how to fence. It takes some education, I know nothing. Fencing is sword in this case. The tip consists of a spring-loaded pressure contact. The tip is checked, it must be able to lift a weight of 750 grams. Along the sword runs two electrical wires to a contact in the sword handle. A cable is plugged into it, the cable goes under the dress to a connector to a wire which is attached to a cable turtle. This is connected to a hit detection device. Sword and carpet are grounded so that no hit is recorded at a hit against them. Me who have always wondered what all the wires are for. Of course, what a muttonhead I am!

One greet each other with swinging the sword at each other and the judge. Hitting against each other's hand of protection, a test of that the hit counter is not counting. En garde, allez! A sport with a French touch. Referee starts the match. Each team are two persons, first to five hits, then the next couple continue first to ten. Ladies and gentlemen mixed. Women win the point at double hit. It goes pretty well for the son, but there is some problem with his swords. A screw is missing at the tip. One tries to screw in a new, but they fall off after a while. He borrow another sword. More than me who is documenting the contest, a man is shooting the matches. A father and son form a team, they meet my friends son's team. 'Come on Dad', 'Come on my son's the fight is in the audience. It is a good atmosphere. The son make a hit on the opponent's fencing mask. His team ends as seven out of twelve teams. Not bad. Time for me to leave.

It is Sunday café on St. Hansgården. There is only families with children there. Some have coffee, a campfire is burning. I take the opportunity to go in and see the animals. Hens struts around and peck, children tear grass for the sheep. What a woolly sheep! A wind swirling wine. Bicycles home. Gråen is not in sight.
