about Walpurgis night celebrations in Lund, with a visit to the youth partying in the city park, and a bonfire lit in the pot at Sankt Hans Hills. April 30, 2012: My clock radio is broken. Bikes down to Kjell & Company and buy a new one. I am now near the city park, the time is 11 am and there has been a flood of young people on the way to the city park for the Walpurgis night celebration. Go there for study purposes. Gröningen is already full. The birds are still calm, the police patrol. Flower beds are protected by fences. Offered condoms, well probably nothing for me here today. All quiet so far, becomes messier later, and much debris must be cleared away after the party and before the bonfire be lit tonight. Then I'm not here. Someone in the bushes yell "Do not look here." I look of course there. Some girls are sitting and peeing. I do not watch it. In the evening I cycle over to Sankt Hans Hills for the first time during the nearly 40 years one has celebrated Walpurgis night there. People stream into the pot. Down in the pot are musicians entertaining while waiting for the bonfire to be lit. The slope is filled with people. Björn Abelson, socialdemocrat president of Lund, give the speech to greet the spring. The fire is lit. It is photographed frequently. The hillside is full, is probably 2-3000. The fire burn up. Time to barbecue, go to the bonfire. You can buy hot dogs to grill, not in the flames but at the usual grill. Poor to glow, it needs a little oxygen. It is waved, the flakes fly around. My sausage is grilled. Björn Abelson handle the bonfire. Some grill in the bonfire. Eat the sausage. Dusk fall, the fire dies down, and I cycle home. In the city park celebrated 30 000 young people. According to press reports, it was untidy after them. All portable toilets were not enough does it say. |
